Two jars of dark chocolate hazelnut spread

WOWZA! It’s been months since I’ve posted a recipe on this space and honestly, this Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Spread is barely a recipe, because it requires no effort at all.

So things have been busy, and I hate when people say that, but life has been FULL. Gabrielle and I have hosted Galley Kitchen Throwdown events, 3 to be exact. We made it through a very long and dark Winter. Life is finally starting to feel much lighter with the arrival of Spring, and the prospect of new opportunity in our horizons. We are super excited!

On to the recipe! I got the idea for this Easy Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Spread when I was stocking shelves at TJ’s. It’s made with one of my favorite chocolate bars, the Swiss Dark Chocolate bar with 30% Whole Hazelnuts. It is truly addictive on its own, but if you want spreadable chocolate and an excuse to have chocolate for breakfast, you should definitely make this! All I did was add some coconut oil and salt to bind all the flavors together. It’s basically adult Nutella. Good luck not eating this by the spoonful!

Prep time: 5 MCook time: 5 MTotal time: 10 M

Ingredients:

  • 2 Trader Joe’s Swiss Dark Chocolate Bar with 30% Whole Hazelnuts
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Break chocolate into pieces, and melt in a double boiler. This prevents the chocolate from burning. I would not recommend melting chocolate in a microwave, because it could affect the hazelnuts. If you don't have a double boiler, no problem! You can use any pot, and fill it half way with water and place a metal bowl over the top.
  2. Once chocolate is melted, transfer to a blender or food processor. I used a Vitamix.
  3. Blend until smooth and transfer to jar. Let cool overnight and enjoy once it has solidified.
  4. Store at room temperate in an airtight jar to prevent the spread from drying out.
